Probus Two Club agree Name Change.

At their meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 15th of July the members of Probus Two agreed to change the name of their club to ‘Congleton Dane Probus Club’, thereby more accurately describing the area and some of the background to the formation of the Club. The change was approved by a large majority of the members present and will be ratified at the AGM in October.
The enrolment of two new members was approved, this bringing the total membership numbers close to the maximum permitted under Club rules, and they will be welcomed at the meeting in August.
The social diary continues to grow with proposals for Ten Pin Bowling outing plus a Boules group and a Crown Green Bowling group all being considered. The trip to Denby Pottery organised by David Dickinson was well supported and had gone very well and the numbers are now in place for the lunchtime trip on the Judith Mary canal boat in September.
The Dining group will be meeting again in August, the snooker group continues to prosper and the date for the Autumn lunch and 20th Anniversary celebration is set for the 18th of October at the Manor House Hotel in Alsager. Arrangements for a Christmas lunch were also discussed and approved.
The speaker was Paul Gubbins who gave a most interesting talk on the subject of ‘Esperanto – the international language’. This was well received by the members, many questions were asked and Steven Ellwood gave a most entertaining speech (partly in Esperanto) by way of thanks.
Congleton Probus Two Club was founded some 20 years ago and meet once a month to listen to an invited speaker. During the year many other activities are arranged, such as visits to places of interest (e.g. television studios, factory sites, museums etc.), days-out at the races,
sporting events ranging from snooker (regularly) to ten-pin-bowling, canal boat cruises, countryside walks, club lunches with spouses invited and
group holidays.
