Congleton Dane Probus Club.
Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 19th of May and were pleased to welcome new member Trevor Adams to the Club and also guest Terry Soult.
Chairman Roger Smith thanked Don Newling for organising the Ten Pin Bowling event which was held on the 5th of May in conjunction with Congleton and District Probus Club. This was followed by a pub lunch and had proved to be a very successful event. He also thanked Gordon Watkin for organising the spring lunch. The event had been well attended with excellent food and companionship and the members joined with Roger in expressing their thanks and appreciation.
Chairman Roger showed the new Probus plaque to the members and this was now to be passed to the hotel for placing at the front entrance. He also pointed out a shortage of social events for later in the year and Don Cole undertook to organise a day out at the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester.
Don Newling gave an interesting report on the Ten Pin Bowling meeting and it was thought that a boules match might well be arranged in September. The snooker group evidently continues to prosper and he also read out an invitation from Congleton Ladies Probus One Club to join them on a day out at Arley Hall on the tenth of July.
The date for the annual golf event was arranged for Tuesday the 14th of October and the date for the next meeting of the dining group is set for Monday the 30th of June.
The speaker for the day was Don Loran and his subject was ‘It shouldn’t happen to an optometrist’. The talk was highly informative, very interesting and at times very amusing. The members asked many questions at the end of the talk and Denny Stevens expressed the member’s appreciation.
The meeting was followed by the usual convivial lunch.
