August news.

The members of Congleton Dane Probus Club (formerly Congleton Probus Two Club) held a most interesting meeting on Monday the 19th of August at the Lion and Swan, the main reason being the extremely entertaining lecture given by Professor Ian Morrison, a senior figure from the Jodrell Bank Observatory. He chose as his subject ‘Are we alone’ and gave a most interesting (and often amusing) talk on the possibility of the existence of some sort of life on a planet other than our own.
The final outcome was that it is unlikely, but then there is always the possibility that there is so no doubt we shall keep on looking. Gordon Watkin gave thanks on behalf of the members.

Two new members, Bryan Booth and Len Ford, were made welcome by the chairman and presented with their club badges and information pack. Three Member’s guests were also welcomed by the chairman and it is hoped that they will be joining the club at some time in the future.
The meeting was lively as usual, mainly concentrating on social events. Arrangements for the 20th Anniversary lunch at the Manor House in Alsager are now in place and the organisers are planning for this event to be a celebration of the Club’s successes over the past 20 years. Members are encouraged to attend, along with their wives or partners
The Boules group is due to have its first meeting at the Church House in Buglawton on the 29th of August and the Crown Green Bowling Group is due to meet early in September.
The lunchtime cruise on the Judith Mary for the 2nd of September is almost booked up and the recent meeting of the Dining Group was well attended, The Snooker Group under the tutelage of Don Newling continues to grow in numbers and is proving increasingly popular.
Congleton Dane Probus Club (formerly Congleton Probus Two Club) was founded some 20 years ago. We meet once a month to listen to an invited speaker. However during the year many other activities are arranged, such as visits to places of interest (e.g. television studios, factory sites, museums etc.), days-out at the races, sports events ranging from snooker (regularly) to ten-pin-bowling, canal boat cruises, countryside walks, club lunches with spouses invited and group holidays.
