December Meeting and Christmas lunch.

Congleton Dane Probus Club met at the Lion and Swan for their December meeting on Monday the 16th of December and enjoyed a well attended and lively meeting.
Chairman Roger Smith opened the meeting by welcoming the members and Sheila Parry who was due to give the talk after the meeting.
The changes in the constitution were approved at the EGM, all the members present being in favour of the alterations.
The day trip to Port Sunlight had attracted a lot of interest and Steven gave the members more information regarding the day, now being planned for Monday the 24th of March 2014. A guide was being provided for the day, the cost was very reasonable and many members signed up for what should be a very pleasant day out.
Don Newling brought the members up to date with his progress on the trip to Liverpool, and it was hoped that this could take place in May, more information being available at the meeting in January. Don also gave an update on the snooker group which meets every Tuesday morning and is proving very popular, growing from strength to strength. He recounted some amusing anecdotes, pointed out that one didn’t need to be an expert to join in and enjoy a good morning in pleasant company.

Peter Jordan reported that he now had a full complement of speakers in place for 2014 and that he would  starting to lay the plans for 2015 in January.
Gordon told the members that he was already working on a venue for the spring lunch and hoped to be able to give more information at the next meeting. Don Cole reminded the members about the special guest days in January, February and March along with a leaflet that he had brought to the meeting with those particular days in mind.
Peter introduced Sheila Parry and she gave a number of most entertaining readings, all with a Christmas theme and delivered in a local accent where appropriate. The members thoroughly enjoyed the occasion, Ian Fraser gave the members thanks and she received a well deserved round of applause.
The members then sat down to their Christmas lunch, kindly provided by the Lion and Swan and enjoyed an excellent repast, followed by coffee and mince pies.
We meet once a month for regular meetings and to listen to an invited speaker, followed by lunch at the hotel for those who wish to stay. During the year many other activities are arranged, such as visits to places of interest (e.g. television studios, factory sites, museums etc.), days-out at the races, sports events ranging from snooker (regularly) to ten-pin-bowling, canal boat cruises, countryside walks, club lunches with spouses invited and group holidays.
If you would like to attend one of our meetings please contact us either on www.congleton-probus.org.uk or ring Paul Nadin on 01260 279443.
