Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 20th of July and Chairman Don Newling opened the meeting by welcoming the members and the speaker Ray Perry from the Rudyard Lake Trust.

The meeting was well attended and Don took the opportunity of  thanking Vaidy Iyer for organising an excellent day out at the Anderton Boat Lift as the day had been much enjoyed by all those who were able to join in on the day.

David Dickinson has now organised the day out at the Railway Heritage Museum in Crewe for Wednesday the 19th of August and has a sufficient number of members interested to make the day worthwhile.

Paul Nadin gave out some more information about the possible trip to the Brewery Museum in Burton-on-Trent on the 2nd of November and Don Cole reminded the members about the trip to the Black Country Living Museum being organised by Ladies Probus Two for the 15th of September.

Peter Jordan was pleased to let the members know that both Alan Topliss and Ian Fraser were now much recovered.

Doug MacKenzie gave an update on the autumn lunch arrangements and was thanked by several members for organising the recent very successful past chairman’s lunch.

Don Newling reported continued progress at the snooker group on Tuesday mornings

and expressed the wish for more members to join in if at all possible for an entertaining morning.

Ray Perry gave a most interesting talk on the subject of Rudyard Lake past and present, explaining how it came into being and the uses to which it was being put in the present day. The talk was amusing, well illustrated and much enjoyed by the members.

Congleton Dane Probus Club was founded some 22 years ago as Congleton Probus Two Club. We meet once a month to listen to an invited speaker and during the year many other activities are arranged including the annual golf match or the weekly snooker group.
