Congleton Dane Probus Club held their monthly meeting at the Lion and Swan on Monday the 18th of May and Chairman Don Newling opened the meeting by welcoming the members and the speaker for the day John Hooley.

The social events calendar was looking quite busy and Vaidy Iyer was able to give the members more information about his proposed day at the Anderton Boat Lift which included a trip on the canal, the use of the lift and lunch. He now had sufficient members interested to make certain that the trip would go ahead and several members added their names to the list at the meeting.

John Wolstenholme gave out the date of the 13th of October for the annual autumn golf meeting with Congleton and District Probus Club and Paul Nadin reminded members that the dining group would be meeting on Monday the first of June.

Doug MacKenzie confirmed the details of the autumn lunch to be held at the Chimney House near Sandbach on Thursday the 22nd of October and asked the members to indicate their menu requirements as soon as was convenient so that all the arrangements could be put in place in good time.

John Hooley gave a very interesting and well illustrated talk on the subject of ‘The Royal Yacht Britannia and her predecessors’. The talk was much enjoyed by the members present, several questions were asked and Don Newling thanked the speaker on behalf of the members.
