At our next meeting on Monday, 9th January, David Poppitt will be giving a talk entitled “The History of the Christie Hospital”.  His presentation will focus on his time at the Christie and the history of the developments which have led to it becoming what it is today.

David worked for over 20 years in medical research, specializing in experimental chemotherapy at Manchester’s Christie Hospital.  In 1989 he was invited to create a fundraising role and stopped his work in the laboratory to do just that.  Starting from a “one man show”, he built a team of 15 which by 1995 was responsible for raising £3 million per annum.  He became Chairman of The Institute of Fundraising (NW) in the mid-nineties and founded the Institute of Development Professionals in Education (IDPE) in 1999.  He is in great demand for his expertise in the area of income generation for schools, charities and sports clubs particularly through business partnerships.

The meeting will be preceded by an Extraordinary General Meeting of members starting at 10:30 a.m. at which constitutional changes will be discussed.  On this occasion members are requested to arrive at 10:15 a.m. for coffee before the EGM.
