September 2021 news

At our next monthly meeting on Monday 13th September, we will be given a talk on Hancock’s Half-hour, by Andrew Rowe, telling of the development of the program from its inception on radio through to its successful transfer to our early TV screens.

Andrew lived all his life in Mid-Cheshire, was educated at Sir John Deanes, then later Keele University and various building sites around Northwich where he learnt the invaluable trade of hod-carrying.  For 25 years he was head teacher of a Primary and Nursery school near Frodsham, where he had the privilege of seeing Paula Radcliffe win the egg and spoon race.

Among his interests are playing bridge and the ukulele, although not at the same time!  He is a member of Northwich Probus Club and has the honour as being their longest serving president as the AGM at which he should have been replaced was postponed twice through Covid!

Congleton Dane is a men’s Probus Club for retired businessmen or professionals.  Anyone wishing to sample this meeting and talk as a guest of one of our members can contact the club through the Contact Page of this web site.
