The Annual General Meeting was held on 12th October at Astbury Golf Club prior to the monthly meeting.
Outgoing Chairman John Leigh said that he had tremendously enjoyed his year as Chairman, even though it included some major personal surgery. In particular, the procession to, and the crowds at, the Cenotaph on Remembrance Sunday were remarkable, and the external lunches, group trip to Manchester and the weekly snooker get-togethers were great fun. He thanked all the committee members for their support during the year with special thanks to those who stood in for him and cheered him through his convalescence. His chain of office, and the floor, was then handed over to Les Doniger who had served the last year as Vice Chairman.
Les acknowledged the friendship, fellowship and mutual support that existed within the Club, and the work that the officers and member volunteers put in to maintain that facility, and that it is his chief aim to develop and grow this further. He proposed David Musgrave as his Vice-Chairman, and David was seconded and duly elected by the members.
The AGM continued with the Treasurer’s annual report which confirmed that finances for the year ahead were in good health, in part due to a growth in membership. The remaining officers all confirmed their willingness to continue in post and were re-elected by the members present.
One amendment to the Club’s Constitution was approved, in that the monthly meeting time will move forward by half an hour, effective from the next meeting in November. This is to enable a smoother lunch service for the members and golfers. Members will now gather from 10:00 a.m. for a 10:30 a.m. start.
With the AGM business concluded, the Chairman opened the October meeting with the usual reports from committee members followed by an intriguing talk from the invited speaker, John Kerwin who spoke very colourfully about the lead up, battle and aftermath of the Battle of Agincourt.
